Better known as pharaoh ants (commonly called sugar or piss ants), these pests are not unusual nor are they a concern just where you live. For years now, the Bay Area has had widespread invasions of these "trailing ants".
These "trailing ants" are very difficult to deal with and require patience and communication to achieve ultimate control...which is elimination. The difficulty is that with most normal infestations of roaches or ants, we as professional pest control technicians can locate the harborage (home) and breeding locations, treat the affected area and quickly provide results.
Effective treatment techniques required in properly controlling "trailing ants" requires the need of those very ants to carry the killing material back to the "queen" to kill her; once she dies, the colony dies. The elimination of individual ants only slows and aggravates the situation. Killing the ants in plain sight leaves a residue and creates fragmenting of the colony, alarming the remainder of the colony and, thus, creating a new colony.
As previously mentioned, you and your situation are common in Florida. You can trust that the management team and our company will work with you on eliminating this as a concern. You can help! With solid communication pinpointing enrty areas and having a better awareness on prevention techniques, we WILL get you the results you are looking for.
These ants are attracted to scents, sweets, and water. Your ability to keep the kitchen clean (preferably with a thorough wiping of cabibnets and counters with ammonia) will help deter these "trailing ants". In addition, keep standing water to a minimum. Most importantly, do not spray these ants with over-the-counter products; this will prevent the fragmenting of the colonies.
The management team and our company have your best interest in mind, and we take pride in taking any and all actions necessary to accommodate you. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call our office: (800) 432-6547.

Are you confused about ants? We receive many calls and concerns on the variety of ants and the proper control. Many people have been misinformed regarding these pests. It is widely accepted and acknowledged that baiting is the only technique.
This is not true!
In fact, treatments vary greatly based on the specific species of ants and other concerns such as location, sanitation, and cooperation. We will take a few moments to discuss the most common of the ant species and the prescription treatments that Prevail! provides.
Carpenter Ants
These are those larger ants (sometimes with wings, during swarm season).
These ants are handled in two distinct ways. One is to locate the nest, which can be difficult due to the minimal area needed to house a large colony in a hidden area within the structure. When locating the nest, treatment typically includes sprays, dusts or aerosols to quickly eliminate the colony. Many times it is difficult to locate the nest (large structures and limited communication with the resident), therefore granular baits are utilized to have the foraging ants carry bit back to the nest, thus indcuing death of the colony.
Fire Ants
Fire Ants vary in size from small to medium. These invaders appear in large numbers, usually after some extreme weather condition. Heavy rain or even thunder and lightning will aggravate them. Also, prolonged dry conditions will signal these invaders to search for new surroundings.
Treatment for these pests can display more immediate results. It is prudent to utilize more traditional treatment (spraying), as well as granular baits and dusts. The treatment often consists of locating the entry point and treating accordingly.
Pharaoh Ants
Pharaoh Ants are very small with a reddish-brown color, typically seen trailing, commonnly in kitchens and bathrooms, seeking a moisture source. Other attractants are sweet, proteins and fragrance (deodorizers, perfumes, detergents, etc.). See below for more information on these ants.
Our treatment techniques are the most abundant and comprehensive. We utilize a gel-like material, granular, and a powder made from attractants designed to entice the trailing ants to become exposed to the products and take it back to the nest to kill the queen. We must rely on the very ants exposed to carry the product back to the nest, which can be anywhere in and/or around the structure.
ANTS

It is very important to understand that these animals are one of the oldest known species on the planet. Cooperation, communication and, most of all, confidence are key to our mutual success...eliminating them!
